Just weeks after a plan for a Bitcoin Mining facility with Giga Energy fell through, the city of Madison held a discussion on Monday with a different company who is interested in bringing crypto mining to the city. 

Matt Hein, Director of Energy and Site Development for Simple Mining, spoke with Madison City Commissioners on Monday, during their first regular meeting of the month. Hein said they would like to provide a service very similar to what Giga initially proposed, an interruptible service that can provide steady electricity usage. 

Simple Mining says their facility would start as an air cooled system, before transitioning to a quieter system. 

The city pulled out of talks with Giga Energy, after the company shifted away from an interruptible service.

No action was taken at Monday’s meeting, which was the first time Simple Mining and members of the commission had a chance to speak with each other. Simple Mining would need to apply for a conditional use permit as a next step in the process.
