Dakota State senior quarterback Tray Hettick has been named the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

The Selby native earned the honor after leading the 25th-ranked Trojans to a 35-27 season-opening win over Dakota Wesleyan Saturday.

Hettick completed 23 of 32 passes for a career-high 429 yards and five touchdowns. His passing total ranks fourth in a single game in Dakota State history, while his five touchdown passes are tied for fourth.

Hettick threw touchdown passes to four different receivers, including two to Melek Ford, who finished with a career-high 242 receiving yards.

Dakota State built a 21-nothing halftime lead and held off a Dakota Wesleyan comeback attempt in the second half.

The Trojans also intercepted three passes in the win, improving to 1-and-0 on the season and reclaiming the Chamber of Commerce Traveling Trophy.

The victory extended Dakota State’s winning streak to six games, its longest since 1991.

The Trojans return to action Saturday, traveling to Spearfish to take on NCAA Division Two Black Hills State. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. Central.
