Diane Haiar, 73, of Alexandria passed away at her home surrounded by her family on September 5, 2026.  Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at St. Mary’s of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria, SD.  Visitation with family present will begin at 5 pm on Wednesday, with a 7 pm prayer service, also at the church.

Diane Marie (Scheuren) Haiar was born on July 17, 1953 in Mitchell, SD to Arnold and Zina (Schroeder) Scheuren.  She attended grade school in Epiphany, SD and graduated from Hanson High School in 1972.  On May 11, 1974, Diane married Lynn Haiar at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Farmer, SD.  This union brought their two children, Brandon and Shannon.

Diane was a member of St. Mary’s of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria.  She enjoyed collecting antiques and any activity that included her granddaughters.  Diane’s granddaughters were the light of her life.

Diane is survived by: her husband, Lynn; her children Brandon ( Becki) Haiar and their children, Haleigh and Raeleigh, and Shannon (Casey) Tegethoff and their children, Jozlynn and Braylee, all of Alexandria; brother, Ray (Sandy) Scheuren of Spencer, SD; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Don (Connie) Haiar of Hudson, CO, Leroy (Betty) Haiar of Spearfish, SD, Richard (Sally) Haiar of Wilson, MI, Elton Stoebner of Scotland, SD, Mary Beth Haiar of Sioux Falls, SD, Elaine (Tom) Fox of Sioux Falls, SD, Lyle (Marilyn) Haiar of Corsica, SD, Janine (Leland) Van Emmerik of Salem, SD; special nieces Crystal (Lee) Jager, Mandy (Mike) Sorenson, Liz (Kyle) Kampshoff and their families; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family, including all her daycare kids she held close to her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Zina Scheuren, special uncles, Henry and Donnie Scheuren, parents-in-law, Leo and Mary Haiar, brothers- and sisters-in-law, Duane (Jean) Haiar, Mike Haiar, Phyllis Haiar and Diane Stoebner.
