A 70-year-old Astoria man has been identified as the person killed in a crash Wednesday evening near Ramona.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says Alan Lavern Anderson was working on a Cub Cadet riding lawnmower on 223rd Street, about two miles northeast of Ramona, when he was struck by a GMC Sierra.
The crash happened around 7:20 Wednesday evening near the intersection with 451st Avenue.
The Highway Patrol says the lawnmower had become separated from a tailgate-mounted carrier and was on the roadway when the GMC, driven by a 17-year-old male from Nunda, struck the mower and Anderson.
Anderson suffered fatal injuries. The teenage driver was not injured and was wearing a seat belt.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the information released by the Highway Patrol is preliminary.
