Dakota State University football put together a record-setting performance Saturday night, shutting out Nebraska Wesleyan 52-to-nothing in the 11th annual Ag Bowl at Brian Kern Family Stadium.
The Trojans piled up a school-record 713 yards of total offense, breaking the previous record of 642 yards set against Dakota Wesleyan in 2017.
Quarterback Tray Hettick led the offensive attack. He threw for 399 yards and three touchdowns in the first half, while also running for a touchdown.
Hettick connected with Maddox Kihne for a 26-yard touchdown and found Melek Ford for two touchdown passes.
Kihne finished with seven catches for a career-high 220 yards and a touchdown. Ford added three catches for 102 yards and two scores.
Dakota State led 38-nothing at halftime.
The Trojans added touchdowns from Trajan Davis and Cole Ruesink in the second half to complete the scoring.
Ruesink led DSU on the ground with 105 yards and a touchdown.
The defense was just as dominant.
Dakota State held Nebraska Wesleyan to just 89 total yards and zero net rushing yards. The Trojans recorded seven sacks and 16 tackles for loss.
Gunnar Sarkela had seven tackles, five tackles for loss and two-and-a-half sacks. Kaden Van Otterloo led DSU with 10 tackles.
The victory improves Dakota State to 2-and-1 on the season and marks the Trojans’ seventh consecutive home victory.
Dakota State remains home next Saturday, hosting Arizona Christian in a Frontier Conference crossover game. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Brian Kern Family Stadium.
