Fay Allen Stine was born February 14, 1938, in Sedro-Woolley, Washington, to Marguerite and Merwin Stine. She was the youngest of four girls. When Fay was about six months old, the family moved back east. Fay grew up and attended school through the eighth grade in Minnesota and South Dakota.
Fay met Cecil Madsen at the roller-skating rink in Watertown, South Dakota. They were married on April 17, 1955, and were blessed with five children: three sons, Leroy, Michael and Alfred, and two daughters, Evonne and Brenda. Sioux Falls became their home, and their marriage later ended in divorce.
On June 15, 1972, Fay married William “Bill” Dimick in Sioux Falls. With their marriage, Fay welcomed Bill’s children, Laura, Dee and Billy, into her family. Together, Fay and Bill built a life in Lemmon, South Dakota, where they owned and operated the hotel and A&W for many years. After illness brought about a new start, they moved to Madison, South Dakota.
While living in Madison, Fay worked for many years at Dakota State University and Casey’s. She continued working well into her 80s before eventually retiring. Fay also spent many years actively involved with the Izaak Walton League Ladies Auxiliary in Madison.
Throughout her life, what brought Fay the greatest happiness was her family. She loved being with her children and especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fay also loved playing golf and enjoyed her time with the ladies’ league while living in Lemmon.
Fay is survived by her sons, Leroy (Patsy), Michael (Dawn) and Alfred (Jill); daughters, Evonne and Brenda (Harland); daughters, Laura (Todd) and Dee; along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marguerite and Merwin; sisters, Mary, Della and Emma; former husband, Cecil; and husband Bill.
