Dakota State University’s Dr. Andrew Sathoff has been selected for the American Phytopathological Society’s 2026 Excellence in Teaching Award.
Sathoff, associate professor of biology, director of undergraduate research, and department chair of math & science, is being recognized for his exceptional commitment and effectiveness in teaching plant pathology.
The APS is the premier professional society for plant pathologists worldwide, and the Excellence in Teaching Award is the top teaching award in plant pathology, which is only awarded to one person each year.
He was nominated by Dr. Stacey Berry, dean of the College of Arts & Sciences.
Berry says that what makes Dr. Sathoff stand out is how seamlessly he connects his research and his teaching.
As part of the award, Sathoff will receive a $1,000 honorarium.
The award announcement will be published in an upcoming edition of Phytopathology News, and Sathoff will be formally recognized on, Aug. 2nd, during the opening session at Plant Health 2026 in Providence, Rhode Island.
Sathoff hopes this inspires other faculty members to apply for similar awards.
