For one quarter it looked like the #2 seed in the Region 3A playoffs might be on upset alert, but the Dell Rapids girls quickly found their footing in a 77-40 win over the Madison Bulldogs.
Madison’s defense and three point shooting gave the Bulldogs a 15-14 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. Madison forced 5 turnovers and went 3-of-4 from deep in the first eight minutes.
The Quarriers took the lead back just seconds into the 2nd quarter, and never came close to giving it back. Dell Rapids opened the 2nd with a 21-0 run over just the first three minutes. The Quarriers led 38-22 at halftime, and pushed it to a 25 point lead by the start of the 4th.
Dell Rapids, led by sophomore Rorie Thoreson finished with 31 points. Jaya Engles, Maddie Rummel, and Jordan Schmidt each scored in double figures for the Bulldogs.
The Madison girls season came to an end with a 2-19 record, as the Bulldogs are still looking for their first playoff win since 2020.
Dell Rapids will host Flandreau on Thursday in the Region 3A semi finals, after Flandreau’s 56-33 win over Baltic.
Morgan Sheppard led the Fliers with 25 points and eight rebounds in that win. Addy Hammer scored 8 for Flandreau.
Also in Region 3A, Tri-Valley defeated Garretson 34-16. The Mustangs take on West Central in the semis on Thursday.
