There will be no citywide cleanup event in 2026 for the city of Madison. That decision was made yesterday at the city commission meeting. Madison closed its restricted use site back on November 1 of 2024.
Prior to that closure though they had reserved space to allow only the 2025 citywide cleanup to proceed as planned. After the 2025 cleanup the city permanently closed that site.
City administrator Jamison Berreth said the city had planned for the new restricted use site to be open by now. However, the new site location has been caught up in legal work.
City officials say it is possible a new restricted use site is opened and time there could be a fall cleanup offered.
The Brookings regional landfill and Sioux Falls regional landfill are available for individuals to haul debris there. There would be a cost associated with any City resident wishing to do so. We have links to those two landfill sites under the story at amazingmadison.com.
