Travel conditions will be impacted this weekend by an approaching winter storm that has the potential to bring blizzard conditions and highway closures to the eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota.
The National Weather Service says areas of light snow will begin early Saturday, but the greatest impacts are expected Saturday night through Sunday when snowfall totals exceeding a foot of snow will be possible in portions of the region.
Strong north winds will develop early Sunday, with winds gusts to 45 mph. That means travel may become impossible due to blizzard conditions.
