The Lake County Sheriff’s office is warning the public of a scam that has been reported in the area. The Sheriff’s office says there have been reports of an individual pretending to be an officer or deputy, who is telling people they have missed jury duty, and have a warrant.
In a social media post, the sheriff reminded the public that their office will never call to ask anyone for personal information, banking details, or payment over the phone. The Sheriff will also not contact you about an active warrant over the phone and demand payment.
If you receive a suspicious call, you are advised to hang up immediately. Do not give out any personal or banking information, or send any money or gift cards.
