There has been at least one silver lining to the cold and rainy weather of the past two days. The recent moisture has led Lake County Emergency Management to lift the burn ban in the county.

That ban went into effect last week, due to persistent dry weather, low humidity, and high winds.

Wind driven wild fires have been a persistent problem throughout the upper midwest this winter and spring. Just yesterday, firefighters in Nebraska fully contained the Ashby Fire, which has burned over 36,000 acres. Nearly one-million acres of Nebraska. A major fire in the Black Hills last month burned over 9,000 acres in and around Custer.

The Lake County burn ban was officially lifted at 1pm on Thursday.
