Madison City Commissioners approved a new Draft Parks Master Plan, on Monday. The plan was crafted after receiving community input through surveys over the course of last summer.
Parks Master Plan establishes a long-term, community-informed framework to guide investment, maintenance, and improvements across the City’s parks system.
CIty Administrator Jameson Berreth says they have already begun to implement some of the ideas put forward by the public.
During those surveys, the city also learned they could do more to market the current parks. Berreth said they need to remember that not everyone knows where all city parks are located, and what amenities they offer.
Other upcoming work laid out in the plan includes: adding seating options, improving Woofland Dog Park, and expanding dog-friendly green spaces, replacing equipment in Northwest Park, and developing a new park in Cyber Estates.
Long-Range plans include: a new park in Trojan Village, new facilities at Flynn Field, the development of a splash pad, and expansion of the recreation trail.
Also Monday, the city also denied a request to rezone a portion of Windsor estates. We will have more on that story tomorrow morning.
