Roger Edward Begeman, Jr (Ed), 55, of Humboldt passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Ava’s House Hospice in Sioux Falls following a courageous battle with cancer. A celebration of Ed’s life will be held on Sunday, April 19, from 3:00-5:00 pm at St. Ann’s Parish Hall in Humboldt. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 am on Monday, April 20 at St Ann’s Church in Humboldt.
Ed was born on October 13, 1970, to parents Roger and Peggy Begeman and was raised on the family farm south of Humboldt—a place that shaped his lifelong love of farming. He graduated from West Central High School in 1988. During high school and in the years that followed, Ed worked at Shopko. He then worked in janitorial and supply delivery at Avera McKennan Hospital and also as an attendant at Cones Automotive Repair Shop in Sioux Falls.
In 2018, Ed became the rural mail carrier for the Renner/Crooks area, a role he took pride in after many years serving as a route substitute. Known for his reliability, he built lasting connections along his route. For more than two decades Ed shared his love of music and talent behind the microphone as a DJ, bringing energy, laughter, and memorable moments to weddings, anniversaries, and celebrations across the community.
At his core, however, Ed was always a farmer, deeply connected to his roots. He had a profound love for all things orange, especially his collection of Allis Chalmers tractors, whether for farm use or vintage toy collectables. He also loved to collect classic cars and not so classic. Friends and family will miss his strong work ethic, generosity, and enduring sense of humor, which he held onto until the end.
Ed is survived by his siblings, a niece and nephew, many cousins and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his mother (2016) and father (2021).
