The City of Madison will consider a new ordinance at today’s city meeting, one that relates to a possible data center. 

The ordinance would establish Large Load Electric Rates, available to qualifying customers

located within the City electric service territory who execute an electric service agreement with the City.

To be eligible for the Large Load Rates, a customer must have a minimum peak electrical demand of five megawatts, a minimum load factor of eighty percent, and interruptible load capability in compliance with City, Heartland Energy, and any Regional Transmission Organization requirements, including quarterly interruptibility testing.

Also today, commissioners will consider approving a Tax Incremental Financing District. 

The Summit at Van Eps Apartments is a proposed 28-unit multifamily housing development located along SW 1st Street and Van Eps Avenue in Madison. The Project is being advanced through a partnership between Lloyd Companies and Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership, with the shared objective of expanding affordable housing opportunities while strengthening access to essential community services for low-income residents in Lake County.

Rental rates for the project will be set at or below eighty percent of the Area Median Income  for the State of South Dakota.

Today’s City Commission meeting begins at 5:30pm, in the Commission Chambers at Madison City Hall.
