Lake County commissioners on Tuesday took the first steps toward the county partnering with SecureSD: Cybersecurity for Municipalities and Counties.
SecureSD is a South Dakota initiative, funded by $7 million in state funds and authorized by SB 187, designed to enhance the cybersecurity of local governments (municipalities and counties) against rising cyber threats. Led by Dakota State University’s MadLabs® in partnership with the Attorney General’s Office, it offers tailored protection for critical local infrastructure and data.
Mike Waldner, Director of SecureSD, met with the county on Tuesday, and explained what services SecureSD would provide.
The City of Madison approved a memorandum of understanding with Dakota State University and SecureSD last summer.
SecureSD also offers cyber security education for county staff, and incident response planning.
The county will review quotes from SecureSD at the first meeting in May.
