Madison turned in a strong all-around performance in Brookings on Tuesday, highlighted by three event titles.
Leading the way was Shane Veenhof, who dominated the hurdles. Veenhof raced to a first-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.10 and followed it up with a runner-up finish in the 300-meter hurdles (38.94).
In the field events, Malachi Ouverson delivered a standout performance, winning the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 0.5 inches. On the girls side, Lydia Nelson also made her mark, placing second in the javelin (109-6) and adding a fourth-place finish in the high jump (5-2).
Distance standout Dylan Gerdes added to Madison’s success with a third-place finish in the 1600 meters, clocking in at 4:37.88.
Madison’s relay teams showed impressive depth throughout the meet. The Bulldogs captured a victory in the sprint medley relay (3:56.44) and added a second-place finish in the 4×800 relay. The boys 4×200 relay team placed third, while the 4×400 relay secured a fourth-place finish.
On the girls side, the sprint medley relay team brought home a second-place finish, and the 4×400 relay added another fourth-place effort.
Leading the way for Chester was JD Prorok, who captured the shot put title with a throw of 48 feet, 4.75 inches. Teammate Ben Dougan also reached the top of the podium, winning the triple jump (38-8).
On the track, Zachery Moyer placed second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.75) and helped lead Chester’s 4×100 relay team to a runner-up finish.
Chester also found success in the relays and middle-distance events. The sprint medley relay team placed second (4:00.34), while Emmerson Eppard added a third-place finish in the girls 1600 meters (5:35.24). In the girls hurdles, Jacy Wolf won the 300-meter hurdles (46.86) and placed second in the 100-meter hurdles (15.57).
In the field events on the girls side, Isabella Schmidt earned a fourth-place finish in the shot put (33-4.75).
Chester will be at the Greenway Relays this Friday, while Madison will head to Watertown for the Watoma Relays.
