Patrick Maynard Fiegen, age 81, of Madison, SD, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Tuesday, May 12th at Rustand-Weiland Funeral Chapel with Father Anthony Urban officiating. Visitation will be 5:30 PM-7:30 PM on Monday at the funeral chapel and will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Dell Rapids.

He was born October 2, 1944 in Mitchell, SD, but later he was adopted by Maynard & Margaret Fiegen when he was 13 months old and was raised on a farm near Dell Rapids, SD. At the age of four, his family moved to Howard, SD and eventually settled on a farm near Winfred, SD. Pat began school in Howard and finished grade school at a country school in Junius, SD. He went on to graduate from Madison Central High School in 1964. During his school years, Pat enjoyed riding horses, showing dairy cattle and making memories with friends.

Pat met Dorothy Nelson in 1965 and were united in marriage on October 7, 1967 and they had seven children. Pat began his working years in Minneapolis, working for Hitchcock Industries and Goodyear until 1973. That same year, he purchased Duffy’s Bar and Steakhouse in Winfred and he operated the business along with farming until 1984. In 1984, he moved his family to Buffalo, SD to work in the oil fields. He worked there until his retirement in 2013, which is when Pat and Dorothy moved to a small acreage outside of Madison. Living on a small acreage meant there was always something to do and some of those things were: making his yard look like a park, tending to his garden, tinkering in a shop, watching birds and other wildlife and sitting back while listening to ’60s music and smoking a cigar.

Family was extremely important to Pat. He really enjoyed spending time with all of them and was always willing to teach any of them something new. In these last few years, Pat was able to reconnect with his biological siblings. He formed close bonds with them and he loved learning about his family history.

Pat is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Madison; five children, Jon Fiegen of Greeley, CO, Tammy (Jeff) Sasker of Brandon, SD, Becky Fiegen of Valley Springs, SD, Debbie Millett of Belle Fourche, SD, Mark Fiegen of Sioux Falls, SD; three sisters, Shirley Cox of Wickenburg, AZ, Sharon Stephen of Santa Ana, CA and Janice (Steve) Stager of Aberdeen, SD and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Steven and Christopher Fiegen; three siblings, Lois Boldt, Judy Jenner and Thomas Elon Pierson and grandson, Chance Fiegen.
