The City of Madison is launching a new volunteer initiative aimed at expanding community service efforts by organizing City employees into teams to assist local organizations and projects.
The new “Power of One” volunteer program allows City employees to step away from their regular duties and work together on community service projects throughout Madison. The initiative builds on the City’s existing employee volunteer benefit, which provides up to 16 hours each year for approved volunteer activities.
City officials say the program was created to make a larger impact by coordinating employees for bigger projects and community-wide events that require additional support.
Under the program, local groups, nonprofits, and businesses can apply to receive volunteer assistance from City employees for half-day or full-day projects. Projects requiring 10 or more volunteers are eligible to apply. An employee committee will select two projects each year.
The City says the mission of the program is centered on bringing employees together as “One opportunity. One day. One team. One City,” with the goal of strengthening community connections and creating lasting impact through service.
Applications for the Power of One program are now being accepted.
