The Madison Broncos out hit Salem 10 to 7 on Thursday night, but it was the Cubs who rolled to an 11-6 win at Flynn Field.
Salem scored a run in each of the first two innings, before adding three in the 3rd, on RBI hits from Kyle Tuschen and Cole Cheeseman.
The Broncos put up their first run in the 4th with the help of a Salem error, then scored three in the 5th, including a two-run homer from Heith Williams.
The close game didn’t last long, as Salem scored six runs in the 6th inning, on just three hits, to take control for good.
Bobby Koepsell scored 3 runs for Salem, while Tuschen added 4 RBI. Owen Alley picked up the win, striking out 7 over 4.2 innings.
Madison pitchers combined to walk 8 batters, and hit 3 more. The Broncos also committed 3 errors. Chirs Burke led Madison with 3 hits in the loss.
Dell Rapids PBR scored in every inning of an 18-7 win over the Flandreau Cardinals on Thursday. Zach Puetz and Drew Sweeter combined to go 8-for-9, with 8 RBI and 6 runs scored. CJ Smith and Chris Kropuenske each had 3 hits for PBR, who won their second game of the league season.
The Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks out lasted Canova in a 2-1 pitching duel on in Humboldt. Three Humboldt/Hartford pitchers combined to strike out 12 batters, while allowing just 7 hits.
Kyle Konechne finished with 3 hits, and drove in both of the Gamecocks runs. Luke Koepsell had a hit and scored the only run for Canova.
The Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks scored 10 runs in the 7th innings, to race by the Flandreau Blue Teal 15-8.
The Blue Teal led 4-3 entering the seventh, before a bases clearing double by Jearl Jesson, RBI hits from Brayden Odegaard and Brodie Herr, and a 3-run home run from Logan Larsen.
Ty Hoglund went 3-for-4, with 2 runs and 2 RBI, in the Dell Rapids Mudcats 10-4 win over Baltic. Kason Syverson also drove in 2 runs for Dells, and Carter Gullickson had a pair of doubles.
Baltic took the loss, despite 16 combined strikeouts from pitchers Tate Fuecht and Colbe Scott.
