The Bulldog baseball team advanced to State last week with a pair of one-run games. So it made sense that they would do the same thing on Monday.
Cale Johnson’s walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th sent the Bulldogs into the semi’s, with a 3-2 over the Winner/Colome pheasants in Class B state quarterfinals.
Oakley Mees and Nolan Fischer each added RBI singles in the 4th to erase an early 2-0 deficit. JD Prorok earned the win on the mound in a complete game outing, allowing two runs on five hits, while striking out 11 batters.
The Bulldogs will play Dakota Valley at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the state semifinals.
The Panthers upset #3 Lennox 4-3 on Monday thanks to pitching and hitting of Sterling Schauff, who struck out seven and drove in a pair of runs.
Also Monday, Clark Area upset #1 West Central 4-2. Clark came from behind with a three run top of the 7th inning to take down the top seeded Trojans.
Clark will take on Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake in the semi’s. The Honkers beat Vermillion 4-3 in Monday’s quarterfinal.
