Two Lake County organizations are receiving a combined $2,500 in grants through Sioux Valley Energy’s Operation Round Up program.
The Chester Girls Basketball program was awarded $1,000 to help pay for team camps and equipment.
The Gathering Meal in Madison received $1,500 to provide meals for people in need in the community.
The grants were among $25,725 awarded to 19 nonprofit organizations, schools and communities during the Sioux Valley Energy Customers’ Trust Board of Directors’ quarterly meeting in September. The board also awarded $6,000 in scholarships.
Operation Round Up allows participating Sioux Valley Energy members to round up their monthly electric bills to the next dollar, with the extra change placed into a trust fund. Sioux Valley Energy employees also contribute through monthly payroll donations.
Since the program began in 2000, more than $2.7 million has been distributed to area nonprofits, schools and communities.
The next deadline to apply for Operation Round Up funding is November 20, with grants scheduled to be awarded in December.
