The Madison/Chester Bulldogs won the Class B High School State Baseball tournament on Tuesday, topping Clark 8-2 in the Championship game.

The Bulldogs started their Tuesday with a 1-0 win over Dakota Valley in the semi-finals. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 5th, when Casyn Crabtree doubled and then came around to score on a single from Oakley Mees.

That one run was enough for starting pitcher Cohen Hahn, who tossed a complete game shutout, holding the Panthers to just 3 hits, while striking out 8.

Runs were not as hard to find in the championship game. Madison ambushed Clark starter Cooper Pommer in the 1st inning, scoring 4 runs on RBI hits from Hahn and Cale Johnson. Crabtree added an RBI hit in the 4th, and Braylon Oftedal followed with a 2 RBI double to make it 7-1. Crabtree knocked in another insurance run in the 5th to cap the scoring.

Oftedal also picked up the win, allowing just 1 earned run over 7 innings, while striking out 7.

Madison coach Eric Hortness said that Madison’s depth was on display all post-season long.

Madison last won a high school baseball championship in 2006.
