The U.S. Department of Agriculture is giving farmers a rare opportunity to expand their crop safety net coverage.

The Farm Service Agency says eligible landowners can review and consider increasing base acres for Agriculture Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage programs from June 1st through August 31.

Officials say it’s the first chance to add base acres since 2002, with up to 30 million new acres available nationwide.

USDA says the update is designed to better reflect current farming operations and help producers manage financial risks tied to falling prices, lower revenues, and challenging weather conditions.
