The Madison Bulldogs Girls Golf team turned in a strong performance at the Class A State Girls Golf Tournament, finishing sixth in the team standings behind a top-10 individual finish from senior Delilah Maxwell.
Delilah carded rounds of 77 and 77 over the two-day tournament to finish tied for ninth place overall at 14-over-par. At one point in the tournament, she posted 13 consecutive pars over the course of the two days.
Sienna Maxwell was also a medalist for the Bulldogs, finishing in 18th place. She opened the tournament with a 78 on Monday before posting an 82 on the second day.
Maddie Rummel made one of the biggest improvements of the tournament for the Bulldogs. After shooting an 89 in the opening round, she bounced back with an 81 on Tuesday, to finish tied for 32nd place.
Amelia Fox contributed rounds of 98 and 98.
As a team, Madison finished sixth among the 17 schools competing in the Class A tournament, posting rounds of 342 and 338 for a two-day total of 670.
St. Thomas More captured the team championship with a score of 606, finishing ahead of Dakota Valley (622), Vermillion (626), and Sioux Falls Christian (630).
Individually, Dakota Valley’s Katie Betsworth claimed the state title after shooting a tournament-best 138, finishing two strokes under par. Betsworth held off St. Thomas More’s Kaitlin Strain, who bogeyed final hole on Tuesday to take 2nd place by a stroke.
