The inaugural MadTown Bike Jam proved to be a major success over Memorial Day weekend, drawing cyclists from across the country and providing a significant boost to the Madison economy.
According to the Greater Madison Area Chamber of Commerce, 120 riders representing 12 states took part in the three-day event. Based on participant surveys tracking hotel stays, meals, and fuel purchases, the Chamber says the event generated approximately $100,000 in economic impact for Madison and the surrounding area.
The weekend featured gravel bike races, live music, community activities, and Madison’s Summer Kick-Off shopping weekend, giving visitors plenty of reasons to explore the community.
Chamber Executive Director Eric Hortness says organizers knew the event had potential, but the first-year response exceeded expectations. He says attracting riders from a dozen states while seeing local businesses benefit provides strong momentum for the future of the event.
On the course, Chase Wark of Zimmerman, Minnesota captured the men’s 100-mile title with a time of 4 hours, 34 minutes and 58 seconds. Jenna Rinehart of Mankato, Minnesota won the women’s 100-mile race in 5 hours, 9 minutes and 10 seconds.
Organizers also thanked presenting sponsor Madison Regional Health System, along with dozens of volunteers, local businesses, food vendors, musicians, public safety personnel, and community partners who helped make the inaugural event possible.
Hortness says planning is already underway for the 2027 MadTown Bike Jam, which is scheduled to return Memorial Day weekend as organizers look to attract even more riders.
