Dakota State University will break ground on its new Indoor Athletics Facility next Tuesday, October 27th, at 11 a.m. in Madison.

The ceremony will take place at the construction site next to the Dan Beacom Track and Field. University officials, athletic department leaders and other supporters are expected to attend.

DSU President John Ballard says the facility will provide student-athletes with a place to train year-round while creating new opportunities to host competitions and community events.

The planned indoor dome will cover approximately 129-thousand square feet and support sports including football, soccer, baseball, softball and track and field. It will also accommodate youth programs, high school sports, tournaments and emerging activities such as drone racing.

Governor Larry Rhoden signed legislation in March authorizing 13-point-3 million dollars for the project.

The dome is the second phase of DSU’s Trojans Unite Building Champions campaign. Future plans include a new arena with seating for 2,000 people, along with outdoor baseball and softball fields.

The Indoor Athletics Facility is expected to be completed in August 2027.
