Madison Regional Health System has been recognized by the American Heart Association for its participation in the Mission: Lifeline Stroke post-acute care initiative, a program aimed at improving recovery and long-term outcomes for stroke patients.

The initiative promotes evidence-based rehabilitation, standardized care practices, patient education, and better coordination between healthcare providers to help patients recover more effectively after a stroke.

Dr. Carl Lang of Madison Regional Health, says following proven, evidence-based processes gives patients the best opportunity for positive outcomes, while Director of Quality, Safety and Emergency Preparedness Kathy Hansen says the program helps ensure patients in Madison and the surrounding area receive the highest standard of stroke care.

Mission: Lifeline Stroke launched in South Dakota in 2024 with support from a $4.4 million grant from the Helmsley Charitable Trust. The statewide initiative brings together hospitals, emergency responders, rehabilitation facilities and other healthcare partners to improve stroke care and save lives.
