A groundbreaking ceremony was held yesterday for The Summit at Van Eps, a partnership between Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership and Lloyd Companies, at 108 S. Van Eps Avenue, adjacent to the ICAP Head Start Center. 

The development will include 28 affordable apartment units, 2,287-square-foot commercial kitchen, and expanded capacity for ICAP’s nutrition programs.

The ICAP 60’s Plus Dining Program provides nutritious, affordable meals for older adults while creating opportunities for fellowship and social connection. The program serves adults age 60 and older at community dining sites throughout the state.

During Wednesday’s event, Mike Anderson with ICAP said the program expanded greatly during the 2020 pandemic, as other programs and options for meals shut down. Anderson said they learned a lot about the need in the state during that time.

ICAP now provides frozen meals to locations throughout the state, including Timber Lake, Martin, Box Elder, Hot Springs, Sturgis, and Black Hawk. 

Anderson says the kitchen in the new building will make their meal service more efficient, and allow them to serve more individuals in South Dakota.

The Summit at Van Eps project is being financed through a combination of public, private, and nonprofit funding sources.
