The Madison City Commission will consider approving the sale of Renewable Energy Credits generated through the city’s renewable energy purchases from the Western Area Power Administration.

The credits represent the environmental benefits of renewable electricity and can be sold to generate additional revenue for the municipal utility. The sale would not affect the delivery or reliability of electric service, as it is strictly a financial transaction.

The commission previously approved an addendum to the city’s WAPA contract allowing the sale of the credits. If approved at today’s commission meeting, the latest request would authorize Heartland Energy to negotiate Renewable Energy Credit sales on the city’s behalf.

Also at today’s meeting, the city will review non-profit funding requests for 2027, and approve the 2024 Annual Financial Report.

Today’s Madison City Commission meeting begins at noon, at Madison City Hall.
