The Madison Post 25 Senior Legion baseball team is two wins away from a state championship, after a undefeated weekend at Flynn Field.
Post 25 opened the tournament with a 10 inning marathon win over Dakota Valley. Madison took a 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning, and held a 4-1 lead going to the bottom of the 7th. Dakota Valley then rallied to tie it at 4-4, and force extra innings.
Both teams were scoreless until the to of the 10th, when Cale Johnson launched a two-run homer to give Madison the lead. Braylon Oftedal picked up the win, pitching a scoreless final three innings.
Prorock struck out 10 over 5 and a third innings. Johnson finished with 2 runs and 2RBI. Ryland Johnson and Casyn Crabtree each drove in a run.
On Saturday, Madison beat Parkston 9-2. Crabtree went the distance, striking out 7. Prorock had a homerun and 2 RBI. Nolan Fischer drove in a pair, and Henry Veenhof scored 3 runs.
That set up Sunday’s game against Volga, who also entered undefeated in the tournament. Volga grabbed a 3-1 lead in the 2nd inning, and Madison tied it in the 3rd after RBi’s from Veenhof and Johnson.
The scored stayed 3-3 all the way to the bottom of the 7th inning. With one out, Tregg McGillivray scored, and was replaced on the basepath by Kasyn Gust. Cale Johnson walked to put runners at 2nd and 1st, then Quincy Kurtz lined a base hit to left the scored Gust for the walk-off win.
Madison will take on Dell Rapids tonight at Flynn Field. If Madison wins, they will get two chances to win the title on Tuesday. If Post 25 looses, they will play a winner-takes-all championship game on Tuesday afternoon.
