The future of the Oldham-Ramona-Rutland School District could once again be decided by voters.

During Tuesday’s school board meeting, district officials accepted a petition calling for another vote on the district’s proposed dissolution and reorganization.

The petition met the requirement of signatures from at least 20% of registered voters. The election will ask voters to reconsider the same reorganization plan that narrowly failed in December of 2025, when the measure was defeated 367-363.

If approved this time, the ORR district would be dissolved, with its territory and assets divided among neighboring school districts, including Madison Central and Chester Area.

The election must take place before Dec. 16, 2026. The school board will determine the date at a future meeting.

District officials said the previous reorganization plan cannot be changed for the new election because the petition specifically calls for a revote on that plan.

The district also continues to deal with legal challenges tied to the previous election and the proposed school project in Ramona.

The future of the former Ramona school building was a major topic during Tuesday’s meeting. The building was partially demolished as part of plans for a new school before a judge issued an injunction halting the work.

Superintendent Dan Baldwin acknowledged the district is facing financial challenges and uncertainty, but said his priority remains the students and bringing the communities together.
