South Dakota communities and tribal governments are receiving more than 6-point-6 million dollars in federal funding for disaster recovery and resilience projects.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is awarding more than 2 million dollars through its Public Assistance program and more than 4-point-4 million dollars through the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program.
Madison is receiving more than 1-point-4 million dollars to repair embankments damaged by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding in 2019.
Rapid City is receiving nearly 1-point-9 million dollars to update its fire codes and transition planning, permitting, engineering and inspection systems to a Cityworks or similar platform.
Walworth County is receiving more than 2-point-4 million dollars for the second phase of the City of Mobridge Resilient Systems Project. The work includes upgrades to water intake pipelines, pumping systems and control systems.
The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe is receiving more than 770-thousand dollars to repair or replace embankments and roads damaged by severe winter storms and flooding in 2019.
FEMA’s Public Assistance program helps communities repair disaster-damaged infrastructure, while the resilience program funds projects designed to reduce the impact of future disasters.
