The City of Madison’s second round of street seal coating for 2026 has been delayed because of weather conditions earlier this week.

In a social media post, the city said the contractor got behind schedule and is now expected to begin the work Thursday, September 17th, weather permitting.

The project will take several days to complete, depending on weather conditions.

Residents are reminded to obey all NO PARKING signs posted along the designated streets. Roads will generally remain open to traffic, except when crews are actively working. No parking restrictions will remain in place until the signs are removed.

The seal coating will take place on numerous streets throughout Madison, including all of Ramm Heights, portions of Northwest 5th and 7th Streets, Southwest 7th and 8th Streets, South Union, Egan, Harth and Lee Avenues, as well as streets in the northeast and north portions of the city.

City officials say the streets will be seal coated in no particular order, so residents should watch for the temporary parking signs and make sure vehicles are moved when required.

This is the second of two rounds of chip sealing scheduled in Madison during 2026.
