Residents and city leaders gathered Wednesday at City Hall to talk about Data Centers, and the possibility of one being constructed in Madison. The city has been in talks with Giga Energy to turn a 3.5 acre piece of city owned land on the south east side of town, into a site for a modular data center.
Madison Utilities Director Mike Plooster Plooster said the city electric fund stands to gain about $425,000 per year from the sale of electricity to the proposed center. He said those funds could then be used to pay down existing debt, and sunset current surcharges.
The city commission will again revisit a rezoning ordinance for the parcel of land in question, during their upcoming meeting of February 2nd.
