A Madison High School sophomore has completed an Eagle Scout service project aimed at preserving three community amenities along the Madison Bike Trail.
15-year old Jacob Bame, son of John and Jennifer Bame of Madison, led the rehabilitation and repainting of three pergo-luhs with help from fellow members of Boy Scout Troop 5.
The pergolas and benches were originally installed in 2010 as part of an earlier Eagle Scout project. Over time, the structures became weathered and needed attention.
The three pergolas are located along the bike trail across from Flynn Field, near the Highway 19 and 34 intersection, and at Johnson’s Point.
Bame organized the project and worked alongside fellow Scouts and volunteers to clean, prepare and repaint the structures, helping extend their life for residents and visitors who use the trail.
The Madison Rotary Club provided funding for materials and supplies needed to complete the improvements.
An Eagle Scout service project is one of the final requirements for earning the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Scouting.
Bame says that Scouts must plan and develop a project, then demonstrate leadership by guiding others in completing work that benefits the community.
Bame is a member of Madison Scouting AmericaTroop 5 and a sophomore at Madison High School.
