The Madison Central School Board is scheduled to accept the retirement request of Superintendent Joel Jorgenson on Monday.

Jorgenson has spent 40 years in education in the state of South Dakota, with nearly thirty years as a superintendent. He joined the Madison Central district in 2016. Prior to that, served as superintendent of Hamlin from 2002-2016, and Arlginton from 1998-2002. He began his teaching career in Warner, in 1985. In 2019, Jorgenson was named the South Dakota Superintendent of the Year.

Jorgenson’s retirement request would be effective at the end of his current 2025-26 contract. 

Also Monday, the school board is set to accept the resignations of elementary teachers Huston Lunde and Preston Nordling, effective at the end of the school year. 

Monday’s school board meeting begins at 5:30pm in the board room at Madison High School.
