The FBI Special Agent in Charge of the Nancy Guthrie disappearance is Madison native Heith Janke.

Janke served as the West Fargo Police Chief from July 2017- March 2020 when he resigned to join the FBI.

Janke is a graduate of North Dakota State University and holds a law degree from the University of North Dakota.

Janke is a 1994 graduate of Madison High School. He was a two-time State Champion in cross country. Heith added three State Championships in the 3200 meter run and he was a two-time State Champion in the 1600 meter run. In 1994 he was named male track and field athlete of the year at the State Meet. He was the starting guard for Madison’s 1994 third-place state basketball tournament team. 

Prior to his time in West Fargo, Janke worked with the FBI in Kansas City, San Antonio, Texas, and Washington, D.C. Before joining the FBI He was an associate attorney in Sioux Falls.

As of Thursday, investigators say they have not identified a suspect in Nancy Guthire’s disappearance.
