The Colman-Egan School District is seeing significant growth in its student population, and a recent building expansion is helping the district keep up with that growth.

The district recently received an 11-thousand-658-dollar rebate from Heartland Energy through the company’s Growth Incentive Program.

The rebate represents the first year of savings on the school’s electric bills following the expansion.

The school broke ground on a 14-thousand-300-square-foot addition in September 2024. The new space opened for students at the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year.

The addition includes a preschool room, six classrooms, flexible learning spaces and a weight room.

The district’s enrollment has grown from an average of about 250 students to 327 over roughly five years.

School officials attribute the growth to families moving into the district, along with an increase in open enrollment.

Heartland Energy Economic Development Director Brooke Rollag says the expansion reflects the growth happening in Colman and the district’s commitment to providing a place for families to live and raise their children.

Heartland’s Growth Incentive Program provides rebates on a portion of electric bills for new and expanding businesses and organizations in communities served by the utility.
