The State Individual Wrestling Meet begins today, at the PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls. 

17 total boys and girls wrestlers will be competing for the Bulldogs, with 1st round matches starting at 10am this morning. 

In girls wrestling, Madison will be seeking their first ever state individual championship. Devrah Meyer will wrestle Madison Ballis of Brookings at 145lbs, while Gracie Lobbins will take on Macie Miller of Garretson at 120lbs. Jewel Vardsveen of Madison comes in as the #2 ranked wrestler at 105lbs, and will open against the #15 seed from Sioux Valley. 

Madison’s best chance for a championship may be at 100lbs, where Ella Coomes comes into State as the #1 seed. She will take on Rinoah Gabriel of Brandon Valley in the 1st Round. 

For the Bulldog boys, Caleb Hodges is coming off a 2nd place finish a year ago, and will be the #2 seed at 157lbs. Ashten Dorhout placed 3rd at 285 last year, and is seeded 4th entering today. Wyatt Pickard is a 5 seed and Sawyer Hegg 6th in their respective weight classes. 

The Madison boys are looking for their 1st state championship in over 20 years. The last Bulldog to win a championship was Mike Palmquist, in 2004.
