The Madison city commission on Monday approved updates to the Police Department employee benefits policy. City administrator Jamison Berreth explained some of the changes.

Jamison said the estimated cost to the city with the change would be around $6,000 in an average year. Police Chief Justin Meyer said the department can handle that cost in its current budget.

Also Monday, the Commission approved an engineering services agreement with Banner Associates for the NW Fifth Street Bridge back wall repair project. The repairs address damage identified following the September 2019 flood. Funding for the project has already been received through FEMA.
