Michael “Mike” A. Maroon, age 80, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, at Dougherty House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, following a courageous battle with renal failure.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 AM on Saturday, March 7th at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Father Anthony Urban as the Celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass at the church. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery immediately following mass.

Michael Anthony Maroon was born on January 3, 1946, in Orland, South Dakota to Joseph & Mary (Nahas) Maroon. Mike was an esteemed member of his community and known for his dedication to both his family and his many pursuits.
Mike’s early years were marked by his love for athletics, having lettered in Track and Field during his high school years. Shortly after high school, he met a beautiful girl from Sioux Falls named RozAnn Stricherz and they were married June 4, 1966. His passion for learning led him to a career as a middle school teacher, where he inspired countless young minds with his patience and wisdom. Additionally, he dedicated part of his life to farming, embodying the values of hard work and perseverance that characterize the great plains of South Dakota.
Mike was not only a devoted educator and farmer, but also a man of profound faith and commitment. As a member of the Knights of Columbus, Mike exemplified the principles of charity, unity, and fraternity. His interests extended beyond his professional life; he found joy tending to his garden and dancing, which brought him and his loved ones much happiness.
Mike was preceded in death by his beloved parents and sister, Joan. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his surviving family: son, Thad (Anna) of Omaha, NE and their children Zachary, Jacob, and Julia; daughter, Stefanie (Jason) Agre of Sioux Falls and their children Meaghan (Nick), Mikayla (Jordan), and Carter; son, Craig (friend, Mary Dybdahl) of Worthing, SD and his children Riley, Marshall, and Kellen.
Mike Maroon will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, and friend. His unwavering spirit and kindhearted nature left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
