Rebecca G. Hanisch, 67, of Salem passed away unexpectedly at her home on March 23, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10 am with a 10:30 am prayer service on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem. In following Becky’s wishes, a private family burial will be held.
Rebecca Schartz was born March 29, 1958 in Sioux City, IA to James and Katherine (Morrison) Schartz. She married Gerald Hanisch on April 12th, 1985 at St Ann’s Church in Humboldt.
Becky was known for her strength, warmth, laughter and unwavering care for others. Her kindness extended beyond our family, always lending a hand or a listening ear to friends and neighbors.
Her calm presence and generous heart touched everyone she met. She was a proud mother, grandmother a loyal friend, and the heart of every gathering.
Becky is survived by her children Michael (Melissa) Hanisch of Salem and Pam (Billy) Brown of Sioux Falls; 11 grandchildren; and siblings, Nick (LaNita) Schartz, Deanna (Brian) Kunkel, Frank (Ann) Schartz all of Humboldt, SD, Lynn (Dean) Munce of Hartford, SD.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gerald, and sister, Cindy Griffin.
