Dave Hyland, age 65, passed away Monday, April 6th, at his home in Ester, Alaska.

David Jon Hyland was born on September 14, 1960, to Jim and Mary Ann (Ebsen) Hyland. He grew up near Nunda, South Dakota, and graduated from Rutland High School.

Dave leaves behind a legacy of service, hard work, and unforgettable character. He dedicated 22 years of his life to the United States Army, serving and protecting the country he loved with pride and commitment. Following his military career, Dave ran his own water delivery business in Alaska, building it through determination and reliability. He was known as a true Motörhead, always fixing or rebuilding something—especially his beloved old Jeeps. If there was a project to be done, Dave was already halfway through it.

Dave had a deep love for the outdoors and adventure. He hunted and fished across the world, with a special fondness for South Africa where he created lasting memories doing what he loved most. At home, he always had a loyal dog by his side.

Dave will be remembered for his generosity and loyalty. He was always the first to lend a hand to a friend in need. As all who talked to him knew, Dave also had a sharp, often shocking sense of humor that pushed past social norms and brought laughter (and sometimes surprise) to those around him.

He is survived by his siblings, Marcia (Bob) Olson, Patti (Chuck) Skluzacek, Dan (Teresa) Hyland, extended family, Doug (Lisa) Boer, ten nieces and nephews, and his many Alaska and South Dakota friends who were family to him.

Dave Hyland will be deeply missed, but his stories, laughter, and spirit will live on in all who knew him.
