Bret Erickson, age 59, of Madison, passed away suddenly at his home on Thursday, April 9, 2026.

There will be no services at this time, but a Celebration of Life service is planned for next month. Arrangements are entrusted with Rustand-Weiland Funeral Chapel.

Bret Allan Erickson was born March 2, 1967 in Elmhurst, IL, to Craig & Laura (Hof) Erickson. At the age of five, he moved to Madison, SD. Bret went on to graduate from Rapid City High School in 1987. After high school, he worked various jobs in the Mitchell and Madison areas. On October 20, 2017, he married Christina Putnam at Memorial Park in Madison, SD. After their wedding, they stayed and made Madison their home.

In Bret’s spare time, he loved to mow lawns. He would mow his lawn and when he was finished, he would mow the other neighbor’s lawns if they were not able to do it themselves.

Bret is survived by his wife, Christina of Madison, SD; children-Jennifer Haddock of Sioux Falls, Tait (Laryssa) Erickson of Mitchell, Riley Erickson of Pierre, Noah Erickson of Sioux Falls, Neil Hipskind of Missouri and Raquel Price of Texas; fifteen grandchildren-Raymond, Melissa, Dominic, Khloe, Walter, Chris, Brenna, Jordan, Kayden, Whitney, Kayleigh, Zoee, Aelita, Tait, Jr. and Terra; two siblings-Leif Erickson of Madison, SD and Obie Erickson of Huron.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Michael.
