Madison Baseball used a big fifth inning to pull away for a 9-3 victory over Elkton/Lake Benton on Tuesday at Flynn Field. The Bulldogs plated five runs in the frame, highlighted by an RBI single from Braylon Oftedal, bases-loaded walks by Tregg McGillivray and Cale Johnson, a hit-by-pitch RBI from Quincy Kurtz, and an Elkton/Lake Benton error.
Madison got on the board early in the first inning when Cohen Hahn delivered an RBI single. The Bulldogs added three more runs in the third, with Kurtz driving in a run on a groundout before an error brought home two additional runs.
Hahn earned the win on the mound for Madison, tossing five innings while allowing just one unearned run and no hits. The right-hander struck out five and walked two. Oakley Mees pitched in relief to close things out. Elkton/Lake Benton’s starter took the loss after allowing nine runs, though only two were earned, over 4 2/3 innings.
Hahn and Oftedal each collected two hits for Madison, while Johnson, Kurtz, McGillivray, Oftedal, and Hahn all drove in runs. Corrales Gonzalez showed patience at the plate with three walks as the Bulldogs finished with 10 walks as a team.
Madison Bulldogs Varsity will travel to Regions for their next game Tuesday.
