Steven Fawbush, age 68, of Madison, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in De Smet, SD.
There will be a memorial visitation from 5-7 PM on Friday, June 12th at Rustand-Weiland Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will be in Graceland Cemetery in Madison at a later date.
Steven Scott Fawbush was born September 24, 1957 in Madison, SD to Wallace & Beverly (Erick) Fawbush. He lived his whole life in Madison until he went to the nursing home in 2022 following a stroke.
Steve attended the Madison Central School System. He worked at the Grandview at Lake Madison as a cook. He then went to work at Skipper’s Pizza. He came up with the Hooligan pizza thus getting the nickname Hoolie. He was the manager of The Barn for a short time. He also worked for Neville Construction and then for TW Services until it closed.
Steve was proud of his kids and grandkids. He enjoyed any time he could spend with them. Steve loved gardening and got his green thumb from his dad. His talent for growing large onions rivaled his dad’s. He also had the best watermelon. He would can & freeze vegetables but gave away lots of produce to family, friends and co-workers.
Steve is survived by his 2 children, Caitlin (Hunter) Johnson of Sioux Falls and Forrest (Roslyn) Fawbush of Evington, VA. He is also survived by 4 granddaughters, Noreen & Fallyn Luther, Agnes Johnson and Noelle Fawbush: sisters Cindy and Kathy Fawbush and Karen Feige all of Madison and one aunt, Betty Wilbur of Madison along with several cousins, nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wally & Bev Fawbush.
The family would like to thank and praise the nursing home and hospice staff for their care, compassion and love they gave to Steve in the 4 years he was a resident.
