The latest USDA Crop Progress Report shows little change in the condition of the nation’s corn and soybean crops, following another week of generally favorable growing weather across much of the Corn Belt.
Nationally, 68 percent of the corn crop is rated in good to excellent condition, unchanged from last week. The crop continues to develop on schedule, with 97 percent of corn now emerged and 5 percent reaching the silking stage.
Soybeans also held steady, with 66 percent of the crop rated good to excellent. USDA reports 93 percent of the soybean crop has emerged, while 9 percent has begun blooming.
The stable crop ratings come after another week of mixed weather, with scattered rainfall benefiting many key production areas while allowing fieldwork to continue in others.
Elsewhere in the report, winter wheat harvest advanced to 40 percent complete, well ahead of the five-year average of 24 percent. Spring wheat conditions slipped slightly to 54 percent good to excellent.
