The Madison City Commission approved six change orders for several infrastructure projects during Monday night’s meeting, including the Southeast Substation conversion, Egan Avenue reconstruction, NW 5th Street bridge repairs, and utility improvements.
The largest share of the additional costs was tied to the Southeast Substation Conversion Project, where commissioners reviewed three change orders for contractor IES Commercial, those change orders were applied to the contractors allowance and did not change the contracted price.
Commissioners also approved Change Order No. 3 for the Egan Avenue Reconstruction Project, approving $12, 238 of sub-base material.
Another change order increased the contract for the NW 5th Street Bridge Backwall Repairs by $7,950.73 after crews discovered a void beneath the southwest corner of the bridge during excavation. Engineers recommended filling the void with concrete, installing treated plywood to reinforce the timber backwall, and adding riprap to help prevent future erosion.
The commission also approved a final balancing change order for the Madison Utility and Street Improvements – Segment 9 project. The adjustment reduced the contract by $14,338.47, bringing the final contract amount to $305,013.69.
