It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Daniel Mentele, who left this world on August 18, 2026, surrounded by the loving presence of his family. Born on September 10, 1957, in Mitchell, Daniel lived a life filled with warmth and kindness.
The son of the late Robert and Ann Mentele, Daniel was known for his compassion and lending a helping hand throughout his life. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, as well as his brothers Bill, Roger, Jim, and his sister Kitty. The love and memories he shared with them remain an enduring legacy.
Daniel is survived by his children, Jill Olson and her husband Kurt, Brandi Anderson and her husband Nate, and Lee Mentele and his wife Katie. His siblings, Denny (Wanda), Pat (Lynell), Chuck, Tom, Mike (Elaine), MaryAnn Schwader, Anita, Susie Schrank, and Phyllis Jacobson (Terry). He was also blessed with the companionship of his special friend, Nellie Schmidt, who brought joy and comfort to his days.
A man of simple pleasures, Daniel found joy in the great outdoors. He loved to hunt and fish, passions that he often shared with friends and family. These activities were more than hobbies; they were opportunities for connection, laughter, and creating memories that will be treasured by those who had the privilege to share them with him.
A celebration of Daniel’s life will take place on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 2:00-4:00 PM, at the Howard Legion on Main St in Howard, SD. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. As they navigate this loss, they find solace in the words, “And I will see you again someday in the clouds.”
